Superhero Mind Map

Following Mr. Charles' instruction, we made our mind map using the six thinking hats concept about a superhero. It can be a fictional superhero or a real life superhero.

The concept of the six thinking hats is to describe the tool for group discussion and individual thinking. The principles of the six thinking hats are:

• Information (White) - considering purely what information is available, what are the facts?
• Emotions (Red) - intuitive or instinctive gut reactions or statements of emotional feeling (but not any justification)
• Discernment (Black) - logic applied to identifying reasons to be cautious and conservative
• Optimistic response (Yellow) - logic applied to identifying benefits, seeking harmony
• Creativity (Green) - statements of provocation and investigation, seeing where a thought goes
• Strategy/Process (Blue)

So we searched for some real life superheroes from all around the world and came across a British guy named Ken Andre on a website for real life superheroes. His superhero name was 'Shadow'.

Shadow uses his martial art skills to catch muggers and drug dealers around his neighbour hood. He dresses up like a ninja and uses western weapons like guns and grenades to aid in his patrol.

Our feedback from Mr. Charles was it looks interesting because there's the angry birds. But we needed more examples, pictures and the creative section was lacking.

After that he told us to do more research and there are three things we have to look for:

- the situation about our society

- the action plan

- personification

Building Our Doughnut Seat

We showed Mr. Charles some ideas on how we're going to build our sculpture.

On Friday, we started building our sculpture with newspapers, cardbox, cello tape.

Syafieza couldn't attend the meeting because she had an emergency and had to go to Seremban.

For the legs, we used bottles and newspapers.

Initially, we added water bottles inside the legs to give it weight so the seat wouldn't topple easily. But it was too heavy so we removed it.

As time wasn't enough, Danny volunteered to bring the doughnut seat back to his home and finish the job of sticking tissue with PVA glue on the seat. In return, us girls would have to finish the paint job.

On Monday, we bought poster colors and started painting. For our dough, we used brown, for the cream, pink.

Then we added some shades. For the sprinkles, we used styrofoam and sticked it with glue.

In the end it looks like this.

Everyone did a good job and I'm glad we could finish our sculpture in time. I think we're all quite satisfied with our work.

'Ingredients' of Doughnut Seat

On the 4th of July, the members of JADeS had their second meeting. The main point was to think of ideas on materials to construct our doughnut seat. We sat outside the library at share the ideas we had.

The two visual puns that are considered outrageous are 'doughnut seat' and 'thumb drive'. And so, here is what we came up with.

IDEAS FOR DOUGHNUT SEAT SCULPTURE

Using a real pillow seat and sewing pink cloth on top.

Constructing the doughnut with newspapers, PVA glue and tissue.

Newspapers, card box, tissue and PVA glue.

Using a swimming tube and applying tissue with PVA glue.

IDEAS FOR THUMB DRIVE SCULPTURE

Using card box.

Using plasticine.

Using bottles, card box, newspapers, tissue and PVA glue.

Using wires, tissue and PVA glue.

We showed Mr. Charles our ideas at class and the sculpture for 'thumb drive' is cancelled out because another group was already working on 'pen drive'. So, we had to work on 'doughnut seat'.

After discussing with the members, we decided to use newspapers, card box, tissue and PVA glue to construct our sculpture.

Visual Puns

Mr. Charles gave us an assignment about visual puns, which is combining two nouns, preferable with a double meaning.

For one week we were given to think of puns and we had to discuss and finalize which ten puns we're going to show to Mr. Charles during tutorials. The ten puns have to be written and sketched on butter paper.

The JADeS members gathered at Starbucks one day and chose ten puns which are

After we went for tutorials, 'thumb drive' and 'doughnut seat' were chosen as the more outrageous ones. One of the two puns will then be made into a sculpture.

We have to come up with ideas on materials and how we're going to build our sculpture.

Creative Thinking - First Class

We had our first class at the 31st of July and Mr.Charles told us to bring plasticine, newspapers, markers, strings and wool on orientation week.

First, he gave a briefing about everything about our course. Then, he told us about visual translation, which is to draw or create something that is in your mind. He gave us words and we had to create something using our plasticines within the time limit.

Then, he raised the level by playing some music, and we also had to create something with the plasticines, markers and any other materials we had on an A3 paper before the songs are finished playing.

Unfortunately, we do not have Amal's as she didn't do this activity.

We were all listening to the same music, but the results are different, varying from each and everyone of us. So I guess everyone's mind works differently and that is what makes us unique.
